By: Taylor Giattino For many, the New Year signifies a time of change in one’s life. In much of the Western world, this change begins with a New Year’s Resolution. People all across America commit themselves to a resolution that will guide them towards personal betterment. although few make it through the year before slipping into their old ways. Instead of waiting until the New Year, I suggest that we as the Early College community should look towards ways to better ourselves and our community every day of the year. Nevertheless, when asked about their New Year’s Resolutions, Early College students had a lot of ideas for self improvement in 2017: · “Better express myself to everyone.” ~Leonardo Pineda, Sophomore · “Watch at least one full series a month on Netflix, learn at least two new languages, stop procrastinating, and start substituting non-dairy milk for dairy milk in my coffee.” ~Adaeze Ibeanu, Sophomore · “Be more organized.” ~jasmine Rivas, Sophomore · “Exercise more often.” ~Cameron Egan, Sophomore · “Not to drink any soda.” ~Joshua Egan, Sophomore · “Work on anger management.” ~Aja Gardner, Sophomore · “Be responsible.” ~Yoselyn Cortes, Sophomore · “Try not to procrastinate.” ~Melissa Apolonio, Sophomore · “Never let myself fall as low as I did this year.” ~Colyn Martin, Sophomore · “Change my mindset and outlook on things.” ~Ned Watkins, Sophomore · “Start exercising more.” ~Akanke Mason, Sophomore · “Get serious with school.” ~Chad Forbes, Sophomore · “Instead of having friends, have business partners.” ~Keith Hightower-Gibbs, Sophomore · “Be able to get good grades while playing sports and keep African Club in good condition.” ~Daisy Muhlenburg, Sophomore · “Have a new mindset towards schoolwork and academics and find a coping mechanism to keep me focused and organized.” ~Cemyia Bullock-Roman, Sophomore “It was almost as fun as deriving a polynomial function” says mathematical genius Isabella Burton. For a mathematical genius, that’s like how a five year old feels at Disney World. Homecoming is a special night when students come together to eat, dance, and enjoy our elected royal court members who represent our school in the parade at NCCU. The ceremony is beautiful and all the court members are crowned like royalty. Next we have our dance that lasts four hours. The DJ turns on the music and after a few minutes everyone is having a great time on the dance floor. This is the one time in the year for freshman and sophomores to have some fun with their peers. Since most of the time students are trapped in the J.D. Clements building we never get the chance to really have fun. Therefore, whenever early college students get an opportunity to jubilate, they take it. Having attended three homecoming events, I can definitely say that it is always an entertaining experience and I see the growth of it each year. This year’s homecoming was particularly great, with a sale of over a hundred and twenty advance tickets sold. Mitzy Hernandez- “It was lit!” Lauryn Eady- “It was fun” Cristian Mejia-“It was good. Very Entertaining” Jonathan Santos- “Pretty Fun” Jaalen Brown- “Homecoming was an exciting experience and everyone should get a chance to go” Jessica Bolden- “I was a twerk machine” Isiah Paige-“Homecoming was the place to go to have fun.” Mandy Lopez- lit Aissa Dearing- “It was fun. EVERYONE WAS TWERKING. The music was good and royal court was beautiful.” By: Alexandra Martinez The annual Early College Homecoming is this Friday, October 14th and that calls for Spirit Week!
