By: Alexandra Martinez September is for fall and back to school, but if you are a fashion lover, you know that September is also for New York Fashion Week. AAA -the thirty minute period gap in between classes- allows students at Early College High School to have more opportunities to participate in multiple clubs. One of the newest clubs is Fashion Club and a long list of awaiting students have already signed up to participate in this new and exciting experimentation. It is why fashion and expression have become a conversational topic at our school. Fashion Week promises fashion lovers, writers, and bloggers something new to talk about for the Fall and 2017 spring and summer trends. NY Fashion Week took off September 7th and will run until September 15th with shows from Victoria Beckham, Carolina Herrera, Alexander Wang, Tory Burch, and Michael Kors, to mention a few. Valaquez, a Junior and fashion lover says that his favorite part about NYFW is the clothes and the models. He believes that “It's not just the clothes that make the model, it’s the model that makes the clothes.” Thrilled about fashion club at our school, he thinks that “everyone is a model because they model their own fashion everyday.” Fashion is his personal source for daily inspiration and hopes that through fashion club, more people learn to do the same. Do you have those boom days where you get up and throw a sweatshirt on because you are tired, or wake up feeling bold and wear your favorite leather jacket? Even if your outlet for self expression is not fashion- or writing like me- exploring new ideas is a creative way of learning about how others perceive self expression, interest, passion, and lifestyle. Yes, fashion can be all of these; a lifestyle of self expression through what you wear. Visit nyfw.com to watch stream shows or learn more about NYFW.

The Community Service Club has reached the halfway point in their supply drive for Durham Urban Ministries. This past weekend, members of the Sophomore and Freshman branches of the club travelled to the Durham Urban Ministries headquarters downtown to help organize food, clothing, and hygiene products that will be provided to Durham’s homeless population. When asked about the event, Sophomore branch President, Colyn Martin, stated that “It was a lot of fun. It was nice to see that we were capable of helping out and were able to see different people’s situations. It really puts things into perspective.” As for the goals of the club, Colyn said that “We are really here to help in any way that we can and look forward to benefitting our community.” The Urban Durham Ministries supply drive will continue until Thanksgiving break. For more information, speak with Ms. Smith or contact the Sophomore branch Secretary, Taylor Giattino. By: Taylor Giattino
